Seedance 2.5 vs Seedance 2.0

Seedance 2.5 is the newer model and the default on Seedancee, but Seedance 2.0 is not obsolete: it still offers the highest output resolution and is often the better choice for short, sharp shots. This comparison uses the capability numbers from our model registry, states what each version is for, and explains how the Seedance Lab will add side-by-side outputs with dates.

The short version

  • Choose Seedance 2.5 for clips longer than 15 seconds, heavy referencing, dialogue-driven scenes, and anything you want to edit or extend later.
  • Choose Seedance 2.0 when you need 4K output on a 4–15s shot and do not need edit or extend.
  • Use 2.0 Fast or 2.0 Mini for cheap drafts before committing to a full-quality run on either flagship.

Longer clips and one-take storytelling

The headline change is length: 30 seconds in a single generation versus 15. ByteDance frames 2.5 around "one-take creation" and 30-second storytelling. In practice this lets a scene contain a beginning, a middle and an end without stitching, and it makes extend (continuing a clip, up to twice per ByteDance's page) a workflow rather than a workaround.

Reference control

Both versions accept images, video and audio as references. 2.5 raises the budget from up to 9 images, 3 videos, 3 audio clips to up to 30 images, 10 videos, 10 audio clips. The number matters less than what it enables: a full character turnaround, several product angles and a camera-motion clip in one job. ByteDance also describes "white-model" control on 2.5, where a plain 3D block-out drives layout and motion, and green-screen editing for background replacement.

Edit and extend

Seedance 2.0 clips are final: if a detail is wrong, you regenerate. Seedance 2.5 adds edit, which changes part of a finished clip while keeping the rest, and extend, which continues it. For iterative work this is the difference between three attempts and one attempt plus two edits.

Where 2.0 still wins

Resolution. Seedance 2.0 outputs up to 4K on Seedancee, while 2.5 tops out at 1080p. For a short hero shot destined for a large screen, 2.0 remains the pick. Its base credit rate is also lower, so a 10-second 1080p clip costs less on 2.0 than on 2.5.

Decision framework

  1. 01

Is the clip longer than 15 seconds?

    Yes: Seedance 2.5. No: continue.

  2. 02

    Do you need 4K?

    Yes: Seedance 2.0. No: continue.

  3. 03

Will you edit or extend the result?

    Yes: Seedance 2.5. No: continue.

  4. 04

Are you using more than 9 reference images or 3 reference clips?

    Yes: Seedance 2.5. No: continue.

  5. 05

    Is this a draft?

Yes: 2.0 Mini (cheapest) or 2.0 Fast (quicker at 720p). No: either flagship; 2.5 is the default.

Side-by-side outputs

We do not publish quality claims we have not tested. The Seedance Lab's first test, 'same prompt across versions', runs one unchanged prompt on 2.5, 2.0, 2.0 Fast, 2.0 Mini and 1.5 Pro at identical settings, three times each, and publishes every output with the generation date. Results will be linked here as soon as they exist, and this page's verification date will be updated.

Cost comparison

Credits scale with duration and resolution; native audio costs nothing extra on either model. At the base rate, Seedance 2.5 costs 75 credits per second and Seedance 2.0 costs 49, before the resolution multiplier. Seedance 2.0 Fast (30/s) and Seedance 2.0 Mini (10/s) are the draft tiers. The workspace shows the exact estimate before you generate, and the pricing page has the full formula. Both Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2.0 are on the Pro plan, which renders them at up to 1080p (4K on Seedance 2.0) and their full length; Seedance 2.0 Fast and Seedance 2.0 Mini are also on Starter, from $4.99 a week, at up to 720p and 10 seconds.

الأسئلة الشائعة

Is Seedance 2.5 better than 2.0?

It is newer and more capable for long clips, referencing and iteration. Seedance 2.0 still offers higher maximum resolution and a lower base rate, so 'better' depends on the shot. The Lab will publish same-prompt outputs so you can judge quality yourself.

Should I switch all my work to Seedance 2.5?

Default to 2.5 for new projects, keep 2.0 for 4K deliverables and short shots where cost matters. Prompts written for 2.0 work on 2.5 without changes.

Can Seedance 2.0 make 30-second videos?

No. Seedance 2.0 generates 4–15s clips. Seedance 2.5 generates up to 30 seconds and can extend.

Does Seedance 2.0 support editing a generated clip?

No. Edit and extend are Seedance 2.5 features. On 2.0 you regenerate with an adjusted prompt or references.

Which is cheaper, Seedance 2.5 or 2.0?

Per second at base rate, 2.0 (49 credits) is cheaper than 2.5 (75 credits). The same resolution multipliers apply to both, and audio is free on both. The workspace shows the estimate before every job.

What are Seedance 2.0 Fast and Mini?

Variants of the 2.0 generation. Fast limits resolution to 480p, 720p for quicker turnaround; Mini is the lowest-cost option for drafts. Both share 2.0's reference inputs.

Which Seedancee plan includes Seedance 2.5 and 2.0?

Both are on the Pro plan only. Starter covers Seedance 2.0 Fast, Seedance 2.0 Mini and Seedance 1.5 Pro at up to 720p and 10-second clips, so it suits drafting before you finish on 2.5 or 2.0 with Pro.

When were they released?

Seedance 2.0 on 2026-02-12; Seedance 2.5 on 2026-07-31, per ByteDance Seed's official pages.
