Seedance release timeline

Every Seedance version, in order, with the launch date where we could verify it from an official ByteDance Seed announcement, what changed, and whether it is available in the Seedancee workspace today. Entries without a verified date say so instead of guessing.

Three shifts define the family so far. Seedance 1.x established text and image-to-video with native audio and first/last-frame control. Seedance 2.0 introduced multimodal referencing, so images, clips and audio could steer identity, motion and sound, and pushed output to 4K. Seedance 2.5 doubled the clip length to 30 seconds, expanded the reference budget several times over, and made finished clips editable and extendable instead of disposable.

Seedance 2.5 in detail

Launched 2026-07-31. ByteDance's launch post is titled "One-take creation, flexible referencing: introducing Seedance 2.5" and the official page summarises the release as 30-second storytelling with precise reference control and powerful editing. Beyond the longer clip, the page describes extending a clip up to twice, "white-model" control (a plain 3D block-out that fixes layout and motion while the model handles surfaces and lighting) and green-screen editing for background replacement. On Seedancee, 2.5 is the default model and supports edit and extend modes.

Seedance 2.0 in detail

Launched 2026-02-12. The 2.0 generation is where reference-driven generation arrived: up to 9 images, 3 videos, 3 audio clips per job on Seedancee, first and last frame control, native audio, and output up to 4k. Two variants share the architecture: 2.0 Fast, which limits resolution to 480p, 720p for quicker turnaround, and 2.0 Mini, the lowest-cost option for drafts. Because the keyword demand for "Seedance 2.0" is still larger than for 2.5, we keep the 2.0 page fully documented rather than treating it as legacy.

Seedance 1.5 Pro and 1.0

Seedance 1.5 Pro is still offered by our provider: 4–12s clips at up to 1080p, text and image-to-video with first/last frame, native audio and a fixed-lens option, but no reference images, video or audio. Seedance 1.0 was the original public generation. We could not confirm the launch dates of 1.0 or 1.5 Pro from a primary ByteDance Seed source at the time of verification, so the timeline marks them as unverified rather than printing a date we cannot back up.

How to read Seedance version names

The major number marks a generation with a materially different capability set (1.x, 2.x). The point release marks a significant upgrade inside that generation: 2.5 is not a patch of 2.0 but a new model with longer clips and new modes. Suffixes describe variants of the same generation rather than new models: 'Pro' on 1.5 signals the higher-quality tier of that generation, while 'Fast' and 'Mini' on 2.0 signal speed- and cost-optimised versions with the same inputs and lower output resolution. Provider ids follow the same pattern (for example bytedance/seedance-2-5, bytedance/seedance-2-fast), which is how our registry maps a version name to what the workspace actually calls.

What 'available on Seedancee' means

A version is marked available when it is selectable in the workspace through our provider and its capabilities have been verified within the current review cycle. Availability is not permanent: providers retire older models, and ByteDance can withdraw a version. When that happens the status page records the change, the timeline badge flips, and clips you already generated stay in your library. A version can also be temporarily degraded without leaving the timeline; the status page, not this page, is the live source for that.

How we keep this page accurate

  • Every date comes from an official ByteDance Seed page or launch post, linked in the sources.
  • Capability numbers are read from our model registry, which is checked against the provider's documentation and stamped with a verification date.
  • Availability badges reflect the model status in our workspace at build time; the status page shows live state.
  • Rumoured or unannounced versions are not listed here. Our roadmap page separates what is announced from speculation.
