Seedance video editor: edit and extend clips
The Seedancee video editor is not a timeline editor. It is the edit and extend workflow of Seedance 2.5: you start from a finished generation, describe the change or what happens next, and the model renders a new clip. This page explains both workflows, what they cost and where their limits are.
Try the editor controls
The generator below opens in edit mode on Seedance 2.5, so you can see exactly what an edit asks for: the source clip, your instruction and optional reference images, plus a credit estimate. You can switch to extend or to the other modes at any time. Configuring is free; generating needs a subscription, and edit and extend are part of the Pro plan.
What edit and extend do
Edit
Edit changes part of an existing clip with a written instruction and keeps the rest: swap the weather, restyle a wardrobe, remove an object, change the time of day. Reference images can show what the new element should look like. Say explicitly what must stay the same (framing, motion, lighting), because anything you leave open can drift.
Extend
Extend continues a clip: the model picks up from the end of your shot and follows a new instruction for what happens next, keeping the look and the sound. ByteDance states a Seedance 2.5 clip can be extended up to twice, which is how you build a sequence longer than a single generation.
How to edit a clip on Seedancee
- 01
Generate the source clip
Create the shot on Seedance 2.5 with text, image or reference mode. Edit and extend work on clips from a model that supports them.
- 02
Open it from your library
On the finished generation's result screen, choose Edit or Extend. The workspace opens in that mode with the clip attached as the source.
- 03
Write the instruction
For an edit, name the change and what must stay identical. For an extension, describe the next beat of action and repeat the camera, lighting and sound you want to keep.
- 04
Check the estimate and generate
The credit estimate is shown before you confirm. The result is saved as a new generation next to the original, which stays unchanged in your library.
Instructions that work
Edit the clip: replace the rain with light snow, add a faint breath cloud from the subject, and keep the framing, motion, lighting and colour otherwise identical.

Continue the shot: the woman in the yellow raincoat steps under the awning, shakes water from her sleeve, and looks up at the string of lanterns as they sway. Camera holds, slight push-in. Keep the same lighting and rain intensity. Sound continues: rain, market ambience.

Which models can edit and extend
Edit and extend depend on the model. Today they are exposed for Seedance 2.5 only; the table below is generated from the live model registry, so it changes as soon as the provider adds or removes the capability.

Cost
Every edit or extension is a new generation, quoted like any other from the model's per-second rate at the output duration and resolution you choose. The exact reservation is shown before you confirm, and if the provider fails the job the reserved credits are released automatically. Edit and extend need the Pro plan, which also includes Seedance 2.5; Starter does not include them.
Current limits
- Output follows the model: 4–30s per generation at 480p, 720p, 1080p on Seedance 2.5.
- ByteDance states a clip can be extended up to twice; for longer sequences, chain shots by using the returned last frame as the next first frame.
- There is no timeline, trimming, captions or multi-clip assembly on Seedancee. Download the result and finish it in your editor.
- Edits are generative: the model re-renders the shot, so small details outside your instruction can change. Iterate with one change at a time.

Häufige Fragen
Is this a timeline video editor?
No. The Seedancee video editor is the model-based edit and extend workflow: you describe a change or a continuation and the model renders a new clip. Cutting, trimming, captions and assembling several clips happen in your own editor after you download.
Which Seedance models support edit and extend?
On Seedancee: Seedance 2.5. Seedance 2.0, Seedance 2.0 Fast, Seedance 2.0 Mini, Seedance 1.5 Pro do not expose edit or extend through our provider as of the date shown on this page.
How many times can I extend a clip?
ByteDance states a Seedance 2.5 clip can be extended up to twice. Each extension is its own generation with its own credit cost.
Does editing change my original clip?
No. Each edit or extension is saved as a new generation. The source clip stays in your library unchanged, so you can compare versions or start again from the original.
