Seedance animation and cinematic examples

This hub is about technique, not fandom. Many people search for Seedance examples in the style of famous studios or featuring known characters; we do not make those, and our content policy explains why. What we can show is how to get a hand-drawn or stop-motion feel, painterly 3D, film-grade lighting and deliberate camera language from Seedance using original subjects. Every prompt below is ours and can be used as-is.

Part 1: Getting an animated look

Seedance defaults to photoreal. To get animation you have to name the medium, the rendering method and the motion style, and you have to be consistent: a prompt that says 'cartoon' in one sentence and 'cinematic realism' in another produces an uncomfortable middle. Three approaches work reliably.

Hand-drawn 2D

Name the line quality, the colour method and the frame cadence. 'Animated on twos' (a new drawing every second frame) is the single most effective phrase for making motion read as hand-drawn rather than as a video filter.

Hand-drawn 2D, original characterseedance-2.5
2D hand-drawn animation, animated on twos, clean ink outlines, flat cel colours with soft painted backgrounds. A girl with a red scarf and oversized boots runs across a rooftop at sunset, jumps a gap between buildings, and lands in a crouch. Slight line boil on the outlines, paper texture over the whole frame. Wide shot, gentle pan following her. No photorealism, no 3D shading.

Painterly 3D

For the soft, rounded 3D look, describe the materials and the lighting rig rather than naming a studio. Subsurface skin, matte fabrics, big soft key light and a rim light do most of the work.

Stylised 3D, original characterseedance-2.5
Stylised 3D animation, rounded shapes, soft subsurface skin, matte wool textures. A small round robot with a dented copper body and one large lens eye waters a single potted sunflower on a windowsill; the flower turns toward the light. Big soft key light from the window, warm rim light, shallow depth of field. Slow push-in. Cheerful, quiet. No text.

Stop-motion

Stop-motion feelseedance-2.0
Stop-motion animation, visible fingerprints in clay, slightly uneven 12 fps motion, tiny frame-to-frame jitter. A clay fox in a knitted sweater pours tea from a tiny pot into two cups on a felt table, then pushes one cup toward the camera. Tabletop miniature set, practical warm lamp, soft shadows. Static camera, medium shot.

Part 2: Cinematic lighting

Lighting is where Seedance responds most precisely to vocabulary borrowed from set practice. Describe the key light's direction and quality, the fill (or lack of it), and any practical sources in frame. Name the colour temperature contrast if you want one.

Lighting phrases that work in Seedance prompts

Warm/cool split lightingseedance-2.5
A man in a wool coat waits at a diner counter at 2 a.m. Warm tungsten practicals over the counter, cold blue-green light from the street through the window behind him. Steam rises from a coffee cup. Rain streaks the glass. Slow dolly in from a wide to a medium shot, shallow depth of field, gentle film grain. No dialogue; rain and a distant hum.

Studio product film. A pair of matte-black over-ear headphones rests on a slab of wet dark slate. The camera begins on a tight macro of the ear cushion stitching, then pulls back on a slow motorized slider to reveal the full silhouette. A single hard key light from the upper left throws a crisp rim highlight along the headband; soft fill from a large overhead diffuser. Fine mist drifts through the beam. In the final second, a bead of water slides off the cup and lands with a soft, clean drip sound. Sound design: low room tone, subtle hum of the light, the single drip. No text, no logo.

Cinematic scene. Interior of an overnight train at 2 a.m. A woman in a wool coat rests her forehead against the window; rain streaks the glass and the passing sodium lamps paint moving orange bars across her face. The camera is locked off on the seat opposite, slight handheld drift. Rich color: amber lamp glow against cool teal-blue night outside the window, deep shadows, subtle film grain, warm practical light from a reading lamp above. Halfway through she exhales and closes her eyes. Sound: steady rail rhythm, rain against glass, the lamp buzzing faintly.

Character close-up. An elderly lighthouse keeper with a white beard, weathered ruddy skin and a faded red wool sweater sits in a stone room, a kerosene lamp throwing warm amber light on the table while deep blue dusk fills the small window behind him. Medium close-up, 50mm, camera slowly pushing in. He looks just off lens, half-smiles, and says in a low gravelly voice: "They said the light would never fail. I never asked who they were." Lip movement matches the line. Lamp flicker, wind pressing on the shutters, a slow foghorn far away.

Part 3: Camera language

Use one camera instruction per clip and phrase it the way a director would say it to an operator. Numeric parameters (focal lengths, degrees per second) are less reliable than plain descriptions of the move and its motivation.

  • Dolly in / dolly out: 'slow dolly in from a wide to a medium shot'.
  • Tracking: 'side tracking shot at chest height, keeping pace with the subject'.
  • Orbit: 'slow half-orbit around the subject, clockwise, keeping it centred'.
  • Crane: 'crane up from ground level to reveal the whole street'.
  • Handheld: 'handheld follow from behind, slight sway, no cuts'.
  • Static: 'locked-off static camera' (on Seedance 1.5 Pro, also enable fixed lens).
Motivated crane revealseedance-2.5
A child in yellow rain boots stands in a puddle looking down. Crane up slowly from a low angle to a high wide shot, revealing a flooded town square with market umbrellas and people wading with baskets. Overcast light, soft reflections, muted colour. One continuous move, no cuts. Rain and distant voices, no music.

Fashion film, 35mm anamorphic look, rich saturated color. A model in a floor-length emerald-green silk coat stands in a sunlit terracotta courtyard, late-afternoon golden light raking across ochre walls and a cobalt-blue door. A wind machine off-screen lifts the coat in slow waves. The camera orbits a quarter turn at hip height, shallow depth of field, soft warm lens flares. Palette: emerald, gold, terracotta, cobalt. Motion is unhurried; fabric moves in slow motion while the model holds a steady gaze into the lens. Sound: fabric rustle, distant wind, no music.

Vertical social ad, bright and punchy. A tall glass of ice sits on a sunlit white marble counter beside a bowl of bright oranges and a sprig of fresh mint, a coral-pink wall behind. Cold brew coffee pours in from above in slow motion, dark ribbons swirling through the ice, then a splash of oat milk clouds the glass from the bottom up. Quick whip-pan to a top-down shot as the milk blooms. High-key daylight, crisp highlights, very shallow focus. Energetic pacing with two fast cuts. Sound: ice cracking, liquid pour, one satisfying clink.

Part 4: Combining references for a consistent look

The animated and cinematic looks above are prompt-only. On Seedance 2.0 and 2.5 you can lock them further with references: a style frame you painted or generated as a reference image, a character sheet for identity, a short clip for camera motion. The Lab's character-consistency and camera-motion tests measure how well this holds; results are published with dates as they are run.

About viral examples and famous IP

Some of the most-shared Seedance clips online recreate scenes from well-known films or feature characters from major studios. We discuss these editorially because they show what the model can do with motion and framing, but we do not host them, we do not provide prompts for them, and our workspace is not built to produce them. The techniques that make those clips impressive (motivated camera, consistent lighting, readable action) work just as well on characters you own.

FAQ

Can Seedance make anime-style video?

You can prompt for a 2D animated look with cel colours, ink outlines and animation on twos, using original characters. Do not request specific franchises or characters; those prompts violate our policy and may be blocked.

Can Seedance recreate a scene from a famous movie?

Not on Seedancee. Reproducing copyrighted scenes or characters is prohibited by our content policy. The lighting and camera techniques those scenes use are documented above so you can apply them to your own material.

Why do my animated prompts come out photoreal?

Because photoreal is the default. Name the medium ('2D hand-drawn', 'stop-motion'), the rendering method and the motion cadence, and remove any words that imply realism.

How do I keep the same character across several clips?

Use reference images on Seedance 2.0 or 2.5: a front, three-quarter and full-body view of your original character. Our character-consistency Lab test documents how well this works per model.

Which model is best for animation?

Seedance 2.5 gives the longest clips and the most reference control. Seedance 2.0 is a good choice when you want 4K output for a short shot. Try Mini for cheap look-development passes.

Are these example prompts free to use?

Yes. Every prompt on this page is original and you may use or adapt it. Each has a 'Use this prompt' button that opens it in the workspace.
